Objectives

Develop a system for automatic detection of tampered smart meters. This system, supported by advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms, will strengthen the security of the power grid and improve the operational efficiency of DSOs.

Use case

The algorithm, based on data from smart meters and transformer station supervisors, classifies meters as tampered with or not tampered with. Furthermore, this method is agnostic to the type of meters and communication technology employed.

The challenges faced taught us the importance of setting realistic goals and managing time effectively. We also acquired the ability to distinguish between Artificial Intelligence and algorithms, since the former has a more complex structure, a solid infrastructure and an independent value chain.

This service operates autonomously, automatically and daily with more than three million smart meters, with a hit rate of more than 95%, identifying thousands of cases of tampering, assisting distributors in reducing energy losses, thus strengthening the electricity grid infrastructure.
